1781 - He was born on the 23rd of August in Rocky Hill, near Princeton, New Jersey.

1782 - Berrien moved with his parents to Savannah, Georgia.

1796 - He graduated from Princeton College.

1799 - He studied law in Savannah and was admitted to the bar.

         - He began practice in Louisville, Georgia.

1809 - He returned to Savannah he was elected solicitor of the eastern judicial circuit of Georgia.

1810 - He was Judge of the judicial circuit of Georgia.

1812 - He served as captain of the Georgia Hussars, a Savannah volunteer company, in the War.

1821 - He resigned as a Judge.

1825 - He was elected as Senator from Georgia.

1829-1831 - He resigned to accept the position of Attorney General in the Cabinet of President Andrew Jackson.

1841-1845 - He was elected as a Whig to the U.S. Senate.

1845 - He resigned to accept an appointment to the supreme court of Georgia.

1847-1852 - He was re-elected to the Senate, when he resigned for the third time.

         - He served as the chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary.

1855 - He became President of the American Party convention at Milledgeville.

1856 - He died in Savannah on the 1st of January and was interred in Laurel Grove Cemetery.
