Beregovoi, Gyorgi Timofeyevich
1921 - He was born on the 15th of April in Donetsk Oblast, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.
1941 - He joined the Soviet air force and was soon assigned to a ground attack unit flying the Ilyushin IL-2 (Shturmovik).
- He promoted as a Captain and Squadron Commander and was decorated as Hero of the Soviet Union.
- He became a test pilot, and became Colonel and the position of Deputy Chief of the air force's flight testing department.
1962 - He applied and was accepted for cosmonaut training.
1969 - On the 22nd of January, he survived an assassination attempt on Leonid Brezhnev, undertaken by a Soviet Army officer Viktor Ilyin.
1972-1987 - He became Director of Star City cosmonaut training center.
- He retired and became a Soviet parliament member representing his native Donbas region of Ukrainian SSR.
1995 - He died on the 30th of June because of natural causes and is buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.
