1829 - Born on the 14th of July in Balsall Heath, Birmingham.

       - Educated at King Edward's School in Birmingham and Trinity College, Cambridge.

1852 - He began his career as a schoolmaster at Rugby School.

1859 - He was chosen by Prince Albert as the first Master (headmaster) of Wellington College, Berkshire.

1872-1877 - Served as Chancellor of Lincoln Minster.

1877-1882 - Appointed as Bishop of Truro.

1882-1896 - Served as Archbishop of Canterbury.

1896 - Benson died on 11th of October from cardiovascular disease.

       - He is best remembered for devising the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.
