1823 - Born on the 18th of November in Chester, New Hampshire as on of the ten children of Governor John Bell.

1844 - Graduated from Dartmouth College, Class of 1844.

1847 - Admitted to the New Hampshire Bar.
1848-1854 - Practiced law first in Chester then at Great Falls.
1854-1868 - Practiced law at Exeter.
1856-1866 - Served as Solicitor for Rockingham County.
- Served New Hampshire in both the state House of Representatives and Senate, as a U.S. Senator, and as Governor.
1860 - Speaker of the House.
1864 - President of the Senate.
1893 - Died on the 12th of November in Exeter, New Hampshire.
