1982 - Born on the 13th of June in Bekoji, a town in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia.

 

2003 - Won the gold medal in the 10,000 m at the World Championships in Athletic and bronze at the 5,000 m.

 

2004 - Won gold medal in Olympic men's 10,000-meter race.

 

         - He won silver medal in Olympic men's 5,000-meter race.

 

He is the older brother of Tariku Bekele.

 

2005 - Bekele won the gold medal in the 10,000 m at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics.

 

2006 - Won five out of six Golden League events (5,000 m) in the same season.
