Beckwith, Charlie Alvin
1929 - Born on the 22nd of January.
- Beckwith commanded a Special Forces unit code-named Project Delta in Vietnam.
1960 - Beckwith served as an exchange officer with the British Special Air Service.
1965 - He was critically wounded, so badly that medical personnel initially triaged him as unsaveable.
1977 - Delta Force was founded in November as an overseas counter-terrorist unit whose main mission is in hostage rescue, barricade operations and specialized reconnaissance.
1980 - Led abortive raid to rescue US hostages in Iran.
- Colonel Beckwith was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
1994 - Died on the 13th of June.
