Beaufort, Francis, Sir

1774 - Born on the 17th December in Ireland.

Beaufort was the creator of the Beaufort scale for indicating wind force.

1789 - Became obsessed with the importance of education and the development of accurate charts.

1811-1812 - Beaufort charted and explored southern Anatolia, locating many classical ruins.

1817 - Published his book Karamania; or a brief description of the South Coast of Asia Minor.

1829 - Beaufort became the Hydrographer of the British Admiralty.

1857 - He died on 17th of December in Hove, Sussex, England.
