Beattie, Mollie H.
- She was the first woman to head the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
1985 - She was the commissioner of Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation.
1993 - Served as Director of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service from September 10th.
- Fought for protection of endangered species and strengthening the stewardship of the National Wildlife Refuge System.
1996 - She succumbed to a brain tumor, dying in a hospital in Townshend, Vermont.
- Received the public servant award for her ability to find common ground in natural resource discussions and her unshakable commitment to protecting and enhancing the nation's legacy of wildlife and other natural resources.
