Beam, Jacob Dyneley

1931 - Jacob Dyneley Beam began his career in foreign service serving in Geneva.

1934-1940 - Served in Berlin and London during World War II, and as a political advisor in occupied Germany after the War.

1952-1953 - Acting head at the Embassy in Moscow.

1957-1961 - Served as US ambassador to Poland.

1966-1969 - US Ambassador to Czechoslovakia during the Soviet invasion of that country.

1969-1974 - Appointed as US ambassador to Soviet Union.

1974-1977 - Worked as director of Radio Free Europe.
