Bayer, Johann

1572 - Johann Bayer was born in Rain, Bavaria Germany.

1592- Began his study of philosophy in Ingolstadt.

Grew interested in astronomy during his time in Augsburg.

1603 - Published his most famous star atlas Uranometria.

1612 - Became legal advisor to the Augsburg city council.

Introduced a new system of star designation, which has become known as the Bayer designation.

1625 - Johann Bayer died 7th of March. 

The Bayer crater on the Moon is named after him.
