Batlle, Jose

1856 - José Batlle y Ordóñez was born 21st of May.

1903-1907 - Served as President of Uruguay.

1904 - Batlle's government forces successfully ended the intermittent civil war.

1911-1915 - President of Uruguay for a second term.

1913 - Proposed a reorganization of government which would replace the presidency with a nine-member

colegiado, similar to the Swiss Federal Council.

1914-1915 - Began a new movement and referred to it as Batllismo: concerted state action against foreign economic imperialism.

- Reformed government to reduce presidential power.

1929 - José Batlle y Ordóñez died 20th of October.
