Barron, James

1769 - James Barron was born in Virginia.

         - Served in the Virginia Navy during the last years of the American Revolution.

1798 - Received a commission as a Lieutenant in the new U.S. Navy.

1800-1801 - Promoted to Captain and commanded the frigate Warren

         - Served in the First Barbary War in the Mediterranean and supervised the construction of a gunboat.

1807 - Commanded the frigate USS Chesapeake as a commodore in the US Navy.

1820 - James Barron challenged Stephen Decatur to a duel.

1839 - Continued in the Navy on shore duty, becoming senior officer.

1851 - James Barron died in Norfolk, Virginia on 21st of April.
