Barbie, Nikolaus Jr.

1913 - Klaus Barbie was born at Bad Godesberg, Germany on 25th of October.

1935 - Member of the Hitler Youth and joined the SD or Security Service of the SS (the black shirted elite guard of the Nazi Party).

1942 - Served in The Netherlands and was appointed chief of Gestapo Department IV in Lyon, France.

1947-1951 - Recruited by American authorities for counter-espionage work.

1947 - Became an agent for the U.S Army Counter Intelligence Corps (CIC).

1951 - He emigrated; with American help on the so-called ratline, to Bolivia, where he lived under the alias, Klaus Altmann.

1971 - He was identified in Bolivia by the Klarsfelds (Nazi hunters).

1984 - Klaus Barbie was put on trial for crimes committed while he was in charge of the Gestapo in Lyon.

1987 - Convicted of "crimes against humanity," for which he was sentenced to life imprisonment.

         - On 4th of July, Barbie was sentenced to life imprisonment for crimes against humanity.

1991 - Klaus Barbie died in prison because of cancer at the age of 77.
