1973 - Bakke applied to and was denied admission to the University of California Medical School at Davis.
- Allan Bakke, a white Vietnam vet, was rejected despite his superior scholastic record, he challenged the California program.
1974 - He filed another application and was once again rejected, even though his test scores were considerably higher than various minorities that were admitted under a special program.
1977 - Protesters march around the Detroit federal building during Supreme Court deliberations on the Allan Bakke case on October 3rd.
1978 - Regents of the University of California v. Bakke case decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. The Court held in a closely divided decision that race could be one of the factors considered in choosing a diverse student body in university admissions decisions.
1982 - Graduated from the University of California's medical school at Davis, California, on June 6th.
