1946 - At age 17 she performed as Little Miss Sharecropper.
1955-1965 - Her tenure with Atlantic Records yielded 15 rhythm-and-blues hits, most notably “Tweedle Dee”, “Jim Dandy”, and “I Cried a Tear”.
- Her only jazz album, LaVern Baker Sings Bessie Smith, revealed her mastery of drama, expression, and soul.
1970 - She retired to the Philippines and returned to performing in concerts and clubs in the United States two decades later.
1997 - Died on March 10th in New York City.
