1811 - Born  in Wenham, Massachusetts, on July 10th. American composer and music educator.

1831 - He studied music, and began to teach.

1839 - He was musical director in Dr. Channing's Church in Boston.

1841 - He inaugurated a series of successful musical conventions.

1842 - He was superintendent of musical instruction in the grammar schools, and met 8,000 pupils a week.

1857 - He introduced music into the public schools of Lowell and Lawrence, became editor of the Boston "Musical Journal," and, from its foundation, was principal of the Boston music school.
