1858 - Published the "Catalogue of North American Birds".
1871 - United States commissioner of fish and fisheries.
1874-1884 - He was co-author of A History of North American Birds.
1878 - Baird succeeded to the full secretary ship.
1887 - Spencer Fullerton Baird died 19th of August at the great marine biological laboratory at Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
Baird's sandpiper and Baird's sparrow are named in his honour.
