Bainbridge, Beryl Margaret

1934 - Born on the 21st of November in Lancashire. 

1967 - Her first published novel, A Weekend with Claude.

1968 - Her second novel The Wood published this year.

1973 - The Dressmaker published 1973 and adapted to be a film in 1989.

1974 - The Bottle Factory Outing won the Guardian Fiction Prize.

1977 - Injury Time won the Whitbread Novel Award.

1989 - An Awfully Big Adventure drew on her experiences as an actress.

1991 - Her more recent novels, based on real lives and historical events, include The Birthday Boys.

1996 - And this year the story of Captain Scott's ill-fated Antarctic expedition; Every Man For Himself.

1998 - Set on board the Titanic; and Master Georgie.

2001 - According to Queeney, is the story of Dr Johnson's relationship with Hester Thrale.

Beryl Bainbridge lives in north London.
