1807 - Born on August 11th in Frogtown (later Kirklevington, which is now part of Lexington), Fayette County, Kentucky. American senator from Missouri.
1841 - Move to Missouri to practice law, he served briefly as a federal judge.
1843 - Was appointed and then elected to the U.S. Senate.
1846-1848 - He was the president pro tempore of Senate.
1849 - Falsely believed by many to have been President of the United States for one day on March 4th.
1854 - He helped frame the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
- He went back to Missouri and supported those who attacked the anti-slavery settlers in Kansas.
1886 - Died on January 26th in Gower, Missouri.
