G1899 - Born in Guatemala City on the 19th of October.
1904-1908 - His family moved from the capital to Salamá, Baja Verapaz, where they remained.
1923 - He graduated and went to Paris, France, to further his education at the Sorbonne.
1933 - Asturias returned to Guatemala where he worked as a journalist before serving in his country's diplomatic corps.
1954 - He was banned from the country by Carlos Castillo Armas.
1966 - He became a well known author with the release of his novel, Mulata de Tal. Eventually, democratically elected President Julio César Méndez Montenegro appointed him the ambassador to France, the same year he won the Lenin Peace Prize.
1967 - He was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature "for his vivid literary achievement, deep rooted in the national traits and traditions of Indian peoples of Latin America."
1974 - Asturias spent his final years in Madrid, where he died. He is buried in the Cimetière du Père Lachaise in Paris, died on the 9th of June.
