1697 - Born on April 23rd in Colwich, Staffordshire, England. Admiral George Anson was the first and last Lord Anson.

1745 - He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) on December 5th.

1747 - He fought in the Battle of Finisterre in May, where he completely defeated the French fleet, taking six men of war.

         - He was created 1st Lord Anson, Baron of Soberton, co. Southampton [Great Britain] on June 13th.

         - He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral of the Red on July 15th.

1748 - He married Lady Elizabeth Yorke, daughter of Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke and Margaret Cocks, on April 25th.

1749 - He held the office of Vice-Admiral of Great Britain.

1757 - He held the office of First Lord of the Admiralty.

1758 - He was Commander in Chief of the Channel Fleet on May 15th.

1761 - He was Admiral and Commander in Chief of the Fleet.
