1910 - Born on June 23rd in Bordeaux, France. French playwright who became one of the strongest personalities of the French theatre and achieved an international reputation.
1932 - Married to Monelle Valentin.
- After studying law, he wrote his first play, The Ermine, followed by the successful Traveler Without Luggage.
- His first play, L'Hermine, was not a success; but his steady output soon earned him recognition as one of the leading playwrights of the contemporary theatre.
1944-1959 - He is best remembered for Antigone, The Lark, and Becket, in which he used techniques such as the play within the play, flashbacks and flash-forwards, and the exchange of roles.
- Married to Nicole Lançon.
- He also received two other nominations as author of a Best Play nominee for "The Waltz of the Toreadors" and for "Time Remembered".
