1948 - Born on May 2nd in Seattle. Democrat Calvin B. Anderson becomes Washington state's first openly gay legislator when the King County Council appoints him to a vacant seat in the House of Representatives from Seattle's 43rd District. 1987

 

- Cal Anderson becomes Washington's first openly gay legislator on November 9th.

 

1993 - He co-sponsored the malicious harassment law which passed the legislature.

 

1994 - He won the election to the Washington State Senate.

 

- Cal ran for Janice Niemi’s open Senate seat and won.

 

1995 - Cal Anderson died on August 4th, of an illness related to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

 

2003 - On April 19th, Cal Anderson Park, on Seattle's Capitol Hill, was named and dedicated in his honor, along with the park's new structure, the Cal Anderson Shelterhouse.
