Altman, Benjamin

1840 - He was born in New York City on the 12th of July.

1865 - He opened his first dry-goods store in Manhattan.

1865 - He founded his first store on Third Avenue and 10th Street which later relocated and expanded on 19th Street and 6th Avenue.

1906 - He moved his dry-goods store to the uptown section. He founded the B. Altman & Co.

1930 - He made one of the early entries in the suburbs with branches opening in East Orange, White Plains and Manhasset.

1913 - He died in New York on the 7th of October.
