1959 - Received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Rhode Island.
1961 - Received his law degree from Boston University.
1963 - He was appointed Town Administrator of Lincoln, Rhode Island.
1969 - Appointed as United States attorney.
1981-1993 - He was re-appointed by President Reagan as United States attorney.
1994 - He was elected Governor of the State of Rhode Island with a four-year term.
1995 - He was able to talk to Fidelity Investments to build a major facility in northern Rhode Island.
1997 - Became the Chair of the New England Governors' Conference.
1998-2003 - He was re-elected as governor and became Chair of the Coalition of Northeastern Governors.
