Almeida Cabral, Luiz de

1931 - Cabral was born in Guinea-Bissau on the 10th of April.

1956 - Founded with his brother the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde.

1961 - Founded the National Union of Workers in Guinea.

1970 - An active member of the Comite Executive da Luta.

1972 - Appointed Deputy Secretary General of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde.

1974-1980 - Became the first President of Guinea-Bissau but a military coup d'etat deposed him in November 1980.

1981 - Lived in exile in Cuba and afterwards Portugal.

1999 - He was able to visit his homeland after being exiled almost twenty years.
