Allison, William Boyd

1829 - William Boyd Allison was born in Ashland, Ohio on March 2, 1829.

1849 - He graduated from Western Reserve College in Ohio.

1852 - He studied and practiced law.

1857 - He practiced law in his hometown of Ashland.

1860 - He was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Chicago.

1862 - He was elected as the representative of the Iowa Third District to the United States House of Representatives.

1873 - He was elected to represent the state of Iowa in the United States Senate.

1878 - He was a cosponsor of the Blad-Allison Act and was re-elected to represent the state of Iowa in the United States Senate.

1881 - He was a chairman of the Senate Committee of Indian Affairs and Committee on Engrossed Bills.

1884 - Re-elected to represent the state of Iowa in the United States Senate for the second time.

1890 - Re-elected to represent the state of Iowa in the United States Senate for his third term.

1896 - Re-elected to represent the state of Iowa in the United States Senate for his fourth term.

1897 - He became the Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference.

1902 - Re-elected to represent the state of Iowa in the United States Senate for his fifth term.

1908 - He died on August 4, 1908.
