1784 - Allen was born in Providence, Rhode Island on October 21, 1874.

 

1800 - Appointed as midshipman in the United States Navy on April 28, 1800.

 

1800-1807 - Worked successively at the USS George Washington and USS Philadelphia.

 

1807 - Transferred to the USS Chesapeake.

 

1812 - Promoted to first lieutenant while serving in the USS United States.

 

1813 - Became commander of the brig USS Argus and he engaged the HMS Pelican in battle where he received mortal wounds. He died on August 18, 1813 and he was buried with full military honors.
