1838 - Allen was born on July 19, 1838.

 

1860 - Studied under Louis Agassiz at Harvard University.

 

1871 - Wrote the scientific book entitled Mammals and Winter Birds of Eastern Florida.

 

1873 - Became the Head of the Naturalists of the North Pacific Railroad expedition.

 

1876 - Wrote the scientific book entitled The American Bisons.

 

1877 - Wrote the scientific book entitled Monographs of North American Rodentia.

 

1880 - Wrote the scientific book entitled History of North American Pinnipedia.

 

1885 - Became the first curator of birds and mammals at the American Museum of Natural History. He was promoted to be the first head of the Department of Ornithology at the American Museum of Natural History.

 

1886 - Allen was one of the incorporators of the first Audubon Society, New York.

 

1905 - Wrote the scientific books entitled Mammals of Patagonia and The Influence of Physical Conditions in the Genesis of Species.

 

1913 - Wrote the scientific book entitled Ontogenetic and Other Variations in Musk-Oxen.

 

1921 - Died on August 29, 1921.
