1880 - Served in the City Council and played for the Otago provincial rugby team.
1883 - Went to England to study at the Royal School of Mines.
1887 - Entered politics and beat the opponent Robert Stout.
1892 - Returned to the Parliament after he was re-elected.
1912 - Worked at the Cabinet where he was in-charge of the finance, education, and defence.
1920 - Became New Zealand's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and represented New Zealand at the League of Nations.
1927 - Appointed to the Legislative Council on June 1, 1927.
1938 - He resigns from his position and settled a public life.
1942 - Died in Dunedin, New Zealand on 28 July 1942.
