Allen, Elizabeth

1832 - Allen was born in Strong, Maine on October 9, 1832.

1847 - Started writing at the age of fifteen under the pen name of Florency Percy.

1851 - Married Marshall S.M. Taylor.

1855 - Worked at the Portland Transcript.

1856 - Published her first book of poetry entitled Forest Buds from the Woods of Maine.

1858 - Became a contributor to the magazine "Atlantic Monthly".

1859 - Wrote the poem entitled Rock Me to Sleep, Mother.

1860 - Married Benjamin Paul Akers.

1863-1865 - Worked as a government clerk in Washington, DC..

1865 - Married Elijah M. Allen after Akers died.

1874 - Became the literary editor of the Daily Advertiser.

1911 - Died in Tuckahoe, New York on August 7, 1911.
