1842 - Eloy Alfaro was born in Montecristi on the 25th of June.

 

1865-1871 - He participated two failed revolts against the reactionary, pro-clerical regime of Gabriel Garcia Moreno.

 

1893 - He returned to Ecuador.

 

1895-1901; 1906-1911 - He became the pesident of Ecuador.

 

1895 - He had been a leader of the Ecuadorian Liberal Revolution since the liberals took power.

 

1897 - He achieved the drafting of a new constitution and holding of elections which he was elected for a four-year term.

 

1911 - Alfaro retired from office and moved to Europe.

 

1912 - He was killed and died on the 28th of January.
