1926 - Alexander was born in Apopka, Florida.
1947 - Received his bachelor's degree at Dartmouth College.
1951 - Received his law degree at New York University School of Law.
1952 - He was admitted to the New York Bar.
1970-1976 - One of the founder of Dyett, Alexander & Dinkins. Became District Director of the Upper Manhattan Rent Office and was elected Judge of New York City Civil Court.
1976 - Elected Justice at the New York State Supreme Court.
1979 - Appointed by Governor Carey as member of the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct.
1982 - Appointed by Governor Hugh L. Carey as Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, First Department.
1985-1992 - On January 2nd, he was appointed Associate Judge of the Court of Appeals.
