780 - Al-Khwarizmi was born in Khwarizm.


800-850 - Author of the book about the systematic solution of linear and quadratic equations. The word algebra originated from the word "al-jabr", one of the two operations used to solve quadratic equations. Wrote "On the Calculation with Hindu Numerals" which was translated into latin as "Algoritmi de numero Indorum" where the word algorithm was derived. Corrected Ptolemy's data in geography adn assisted in the construction of a world map for the caliph al-Ma'mun. He also wrote two books discussing on how to use devices like the astrolabe and sundial.
