1942 - Joined the United States Army Signal Corps.

1952 - Married to Therese Fairfield and had three children.

1953 - First appeared in the film "From Here to Eternity".

1955-1956 - Played many roles in television shows like "My Friend Flicka", "Gunsmoke", and "Zane Grey Theater".

1959-1964 - He also turned in several strong cinematic performances, such as gunfighter Joe Burdette in the landmark western Rio Bravo, Mack in the excellent The Defiant Ones, Sgt. Kolwicz in Merrill's Marauders and Earl Sylvester in the gripping The Killers.

1972-1973 - Starred in the television series, The Night Stalkers and The Norliss Tapes.

         - Portrayed the gorilla leader General Aldo in Battle for the Planet of the Apes.

1974-1976 - Portrayed the trucker Sonny Pruett in Moving On for two years.

1994 - Died in Altadena, California on January 27th due to cancer.
