1818 - Agnew was born in Lancaster Country, Pennsylvania on November 24, 1818.
1838 - Graduated with a medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania.
1841 - Married to Margaret Irwin.
1846 - Helped found the Irwin and Agnew Iron Foundry.
1852 - Bought and revived the Philadelphia School of Anatomy.
1854 - Appointed as a surgeon at the Philadelphia Hospital and he was the founder of its pathological museum.
1863-1889 - Agnew was connected with the medical faculty of the University of Pennsylvania.
1870 - Elected as a professor of operative surgery.
1871 - Agnew became the professor of the principles and practice of surgery.
1865-1884 - Became the surgeon at the Pennsylvania Hospital.
1881 - Attended as an operating surgeon to President Garfield that was fatally wounded by a bullet of an assassin.
1878-1883 - Published his work "The Principles and Practice of Surgery".
1892 - Died in Philadelphia on March 22, 1892.
