1568 - The birth of a Portuguese physician who worked for the Brazilian government and provided the world with the first scientific description of Tunga penetrans.

 

1623 - He was the author of the earliest book on tropical medicine describing amoebiasis, malaria, typhoid fever, scurvy, yellow fever, dracontiasis, trichuriasis and tungiasis.
