Abrams, Floyd

1936 - Born in New York City on July 9, 1936.

1956 - Abrams earned his undergraduate degree from Cornell University.

1960 - He earned his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School.

1961-1963 - Abrams clerked for Judge Paul Leahy of the United States District Court for the District of Delaware. joined Cahill Gordon & Reindel in 1963, and became a partner in 1970.

1974-1980 - Abrams returned to Yale as a Visiting Lecturer for six years.

1981-1985 - He was also a Visiting Lecturer at Columbia Law School for four years. He was the author of the book, "The Right to Know."

1986-1989 - He returned to Yale Law School to teach for another three years.

1997 - Received Milton S. Gould Award for outstanding appellate advocacy by the New York Office of the Appellate Defender, Ross Essay Prize of the American Bar Association.

1998 - Received William J. Brennan, Jr. Award for outstanding contribution to public discourse, Learned Hand Award of the American Jewish Committee, Thurgood Marshall Award of the New York State Bar Association.

1999 - Received William J. Brennan, Jr. Award of the Libel Defense Resource Center.

2005 - Published his book, "Speaking Freely: Trials of the First Amendment"

2006 - Ranked among the top two leading trial lawyers in New York for First Amendment Cases by Chambers USA: Leading Lawyers for Business. Became one of the 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America by The National Law Journal.
