Abell, George O.

1927 - Born in Los Angeles.

          - An American astronomer.

          - Is best known for his work on clusters of galaxies but was also a noted lecturer and author.

1958 - He published a catalog of 2,712 clusters and was preparing a catalog of southern clusters at the time of his death.

         - Abell also determined the relative numbers of galaxies with various absolute magnitudes.

1983 - Died on October 7.
