1924 - Born on the 25th of April in Vienna, Austria.
1944 - He was was sent to a Nazi work camp, when Germany invaded Hungary.
1949 - He fled the devastation left by World War II, and moved to Australia.
- He and his friend George Rockey, a fellow Hungarian immigrant, bought two trucks, which they named "Samson" and "Delilah", and set up a transport company, "Alltrans".
1967 - Alltrans merged with Thomas Nationwide Transport, under his guidance as managing director.
1979 - He entered into an agreement with media mogul Rupert Murdoch to take over Ansett Transport Industries.
1982 - He served as chief executive and joint managing director.
1992 - He left Thomas Nationwide Transport to concentrate his efforts on the ailing Ansett.
- He occasionally cut a controversial figure with his unscrupulous business tactics, and was seen as unsympathetic towards minority shareholders.
- He served on the board of the Reserve Bank of Australia, and was chairman of the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.
1999 - He died on the 25th of June in Sydney at the age of 75.
