1913 - He was born and the brother-in-law of King Ghazi, the King of Iraq.
1939 - He was regent of Iraq for King Faisal II on the 4th of April until Faisal came of age.
1941 - He was deposed briefly by former prime minister Rashid Ali al-Kaylani, who led a pro-German
coup during World War II.
1943 - He also held the title of Crown Prince of Iraq.
1953 - He stepped down, when Faisal came of age, but he continued to be a close adviser of the
young king, and an advocate of a pro-Western foreign policy.
1958 - He was killed, along with most of the royal family, on the 14th of July, in a coup d'etat that
brought an end to the Iraqi monarchy.
