William Joseph Summers was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Rubene Rosemond Chipman and Robert Byron Summers. His ancestors on both sides were English and on his mother's side, he was a decendant of the Mayflower Ship's Hope Howland and John Chipman.  He had two older biological siblings, Robert and Marilyn. He remained in Seminole, Oklahoma when his biological family moved to California.  He was later adopted by Thomas Golden Clegg and Julia Ann Farel, with his name changed to Billy Joe Clegg.  He was raised in Seminole, Oklahoma, and joined the United States Air Force at a young age.  He married twice, and two children were born of his first marriage.  He Graduated from the University of Oklahoma and followed a new venture into a then unknown Independent Postal System (IPS), which was prior to UPS and other independent postal systems that are so popular today. He later became an ordained Baptist Minister and followed an evangelistic lifestyle on a political campaign trail as a candidate for President of the United States. Often called a "Fringe Candidate"...he was outspoken and dedicated to quoting the bible and sharing his beliefs in Jesus Christ...even though he knew that many of his remarks were unpopular and his chances as a viable candidate would not be possible.  He was certain that this country could begin to heal with the establishment of a National day Of Prayer, that is now recognized and observed each year throughout the United States. His knowledge of the Bible was evident to anyone who took the time to listen.  His humor was sometimes misunderstood, and his peaceful demonstrations in a mix of controversial opposition...brought on verbal and sometimes physical attacks.  Some of his political ideas were taken up by other politicians...and some of those gained popularity with Republicans and Democratics alike.  Rev. Billy Joe Clegg will be remembered by his family, his friends, and the many others who were blessed to know him.

  Sincerely, Carmen Arn (his daughter)
