1958 - Born on March 1st in Lausanne, Vaud canton. Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones, first hot-air balloonists to circle globe nonstop, picking up their $1 million prize at National Air and Space Museum.
1999 - At midday on March 20th, a balloon carrying Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones 11,000 m (36,000 ft) above Mauritania floated past an imaginary finish line at longitude 9° 27¢ W.
- Recipient of the Harmon Trophy, the FAI Gold Air Medal and the Charles Green Salver.
