Persson, Goran (also Goeran Persson)

1949 - Hans Göran Persson was born 20th of January in Vingåker in Södermanland, Sweden.

1972-1975 - Worked for the Swedish Social Democratic Youth League (SSU), and was a member of the national board.

          - Served as a city council politician at the small municipality of Katrineholm.

1979 - Elected Member of Parliament.

1985-1989 - Served as Municipal Commissioner (kommunalråd) of Katrineholm.

1989-1991 - Minister of Schools in the Ministry of Education.

1994 - Served as Swedish finance minister.

1996 - Chosen over Mona Sahlin, the Deputy Prime Minister, to lead the country after Carlsson retired.
