1796 - William Pennington, born on the 4th of May in Newark, New Jersey. He was an American lawyer and politician.

1813 - He graduated from Princeton University.

1815 - 1826 - He was a clerk of the United States district court and then studied law on his own with Theodore Frelinghuysen.

1817 - He was admitted to the bar.

1820 - He began practicing in Newark.

1828 - 1834 - He was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly.

1837 - 1843 - Governor of New Jersey.

1860 - He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the 37th Congress.

1862 - He died in Newark on the 16th of February and was interred at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Newark.
