1933 - Born in Debica on the 3rd of November.

 

1954 - He privately studied composition before he entered the Cracow State Academy of Music.

 

1958 - He studied composition at the Superior School of Music in Cracow and graduated.

 

1959 - He first drew attention at the third Warsaw Festival of Contemporary Music, where his Strophes.

 

1970 - He responded with the Lacrimosa, which he later expanded into one of the best known works of his later period, the Polish Requiem.

 

1972 - Penderecki began to conduct his own works.

 

1973 - He was professor at the Yale University, New Haven. In these years, on extended concert tours all over the world, Penderecki rapidly acquired an international reputation even as a conductor of both his own compositions and works of other composers.

 

1977 - His other 5 symphonies, small-scale orchestral compositions, solo concertos chamber music works and numerous vocal works are the Prix Arthur Honegger.

 

1980 - He was commissioned by Solidarity to compose a piece to accompany the unveiling of a statue at the GdaDsk shipyards to commemorate those killed at anti-government riots.

 

1998 - He was honored with the Composition Award of the Promotion Association of the European Industry and Trade, conferred upon him on the 10th September on the occasion of the Penderecki Festival in Cracow.

 

1999 - He received the Music Award of the City of Duisburg. In January, he received the Cannes Classical Award as "Living Composer of the Year".

 

2001 - Was awarded with the Prince of Asturias Prize in Spain, one of the highest honours given in Spain to individuals, entities, organizations or others from around the world who make notable achievements in the sciences, arts, humanities, or public affairs.

 

2003 - He received the North-Rhine-Westphalia State Prize 2002 and the European Church Music Award.

 

2004 - He is one of the prize-Winners of the 16th Praemium Imperiale 2004, which was presented in Tokio.

 

2006 - Received an honorary doctorate from the University of Münster, Germany.
