Oglesby, Richard James
1824 - Born on the 24th of July in Floydsburg, Kentucky.
1832 - He worked as a farmhand, ropemaker, and carpenter.
1846 - He was commissioned a first lieutenant in the 4th Illinois Infantry regiment.
1848 - He studied at Louisville Law School.
1851 - He returned to lllinois to joined the Republican Party.
1858 - He ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Congressman.
1860 - He was elected to the lllinois Senate.
1861 - He was appointed Colonel of the 8th Illinois Infantry regiment.
1862 - He was severely wounded in his chest and back at the Battle of Corinth.
1864 - He resigned his commission to run for governor on the Republican ticket.
1865 - He was elected by a large majority and served as the Governor of lllinois.
1884 - He was reelected governor for a third time, becoming the first man in Illinois history to serve three times as governor.
1899 - He died on the 24th of April in Elkhart, lllinois.
