Ogden, William Butler
1805 - Born on the 15th of June in Walton, New York.
1834 - He was elected to the New York States Legislature.
1837 - He designed the first swing bridge over the Chicago River and donated the land for Rush Medical Center.
1848 - He built the first railroad from Chicago the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad.
1860 - He switched his loyalty to the Republican Party, which shared his views regarding slavery.
1862 - He was the first president of the Union Pacific Railroad.
1871 - He lost his prized possessions in the Great Chicago Fire.
- He owned a lumber company in Peshtigo, Wisconsin, which burned the same day.
1877 - He died on the 3rd of August in Chicago, lllinois.
