1819 – Jacques Offenbach a German Composer, born in Cologne, West Germany on the 20th of June. He was composer and cellist of the Romantic era, was one of the originators of the operetta form. He was one of the most influential composers of popular music in Europe in the 19th century, and many of his works remain in the repertory.
1833 – He moved to Paris.
1848 – Directed the Théâtre-Français orchestra.
1855 – Became manager of the Bouffes-Parisiens.
1858 – He composed many light, lively operettas, such as Orphée aux enfers (trans Orpheus in the Underworld).
1880 – Died on the 5th of October and was buried at the Cimetière de Montmartre, Paris, France.
