1917 - Born on the 24th of June in Greenville, South Carolina.

1947 - He joined the School of Theology as professor of psychology of religion and pastoral care.

1971 - He brought his Neologism 'workaholic' into public use and it was soon included in the Oxford English Dictionary.

1974 - He held the post until he joined the University of Louisville Medical School.

1984 - He granted the Oskar Pfister Award by the American Psychiatric Association.

1999 - He died on the 21st of October.
